New administrative rates for the provision of services for prospective and current students and graduates at The University of Guyana were approved at a Special Meeting of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC), on Thursday, June 1, 2017. The F&GPC is a statutory arm of the University Council. The Council itself includes representatives from the University of Guyana Students’ Society (UGSS), the Ministries of Education and Finance, the Private Sector, the Trades Union Council, civic bodies, the campus unions, and the Administration.

UG Administration and senior staff union agree on salary increases

The University of Guyana Administration and the University of Guyana Senior Staff Association (UGSSA) reached an agreement on salary increases of six percent for UA staff for 2017, after months of negotiations. Although the Administration and the University of Guyana Workers Union (UGWU) had inked their agreement for a raise of 8% for UB staff earlier, the UGWU also needed to be part of the settlement, as it also represents some UA workers.

The elections for the PRESIDENT of the UG Students’ Society and THREE (3) REPRESENTATIVES FOR EACH FACULTY, to form the EXECUTIVE COUNCIL of the UG Students’ Society for the Academic Year 2017/2018 were held on Wednesday, September 27, and Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Turkeyen Campus and Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Berbice Campus.

One of the most significant single grants to The University of Guyana, negotiated over the last 11 months with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC). The UG team included Deputy Vice-Chancellor Paloma Mohamed and Dean of the Faculty of Technology Elena Trim.

The GGMC is a long standing partner of The University of Guyana’s Faculty of Technology and more particularly, the Geology department to which the GGMC has granted significant sums in the past; and the Faculty for Earth and Environmental Sciences.
