University of Guyana Vice Chancellor, Professor Ivelaw Griffith has warned new students against stealing other people’s works and reproducing it as theirs to help create a culture of honesty as the country is poised to earn huge revenues.

The University of Guyana on Monday commenced its classes and welcomed over 3,000 new students to its Turkeyen Campus.

Greeting them with an orientation ceremony, officers of the university encouraged the new students to practice certain values that will result in their success at the end of their respective programmes.

The Department of Public Information (DPI) visited the George Walcott Lecture Theatre (GWLT) to gain insight from some of the new students on the transition to the tertiary institution.

Five graduates of The University of Guyana have applied for the inaugural Guyana Innovation prize, which was created in February 2018. The Prize aims to promote and support research and ideas of students, staffers and alumni of the university, in the areas of Technology and Agro-Processing. It intends to create commercially viable and sustainable businesses that would boost the private sector and enhance the economic development of Guyana. This initiative is facilitated through the Guyana Economic Development Trust, an independent U.S.

The University of Guyana, School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (SEBI) in partnership with Ground Structures Engineering Consultants Inc. (GSEC), FUGRO, Guyana Goldfields, Worley Parson and the Guyana Telephone, Telegraph Company recently held a local content forum titled “Local Content: A Mechanism for Capacity Building towards Enhanced National Development.”
