Memorandum of Agreement between The University of Guyana and the Ministry of Natural Resources - GGMC

 

One of the most significant single grants to The University of Guyana, negotiated over the last 11 months with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC). The UG team included Deputy Vice-Chancellor Paloma Mohamed and Dean of the Faculty of Technology Elena Trim.

The GGMC is a long standing partner of The University of Guyana’s Faculty of Technology and more particularly, the Geology department to which the GGMC has granted significant sums in the past; and the Faculty for Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Following extensive negotiations with the two university unions, the Administration extended its final offer of eight percent (8%) to UB staff members and six percent (6%) to UA members for the 2017 calendar year, retroactive to January 1, 2017. This offer was conveyed to the union presidents on August 30, 2017, in the context of what is affordable in keeping with the mandate by the University Council. Moreover, Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith has stressed from the outset that performance of staff members will be a key consideration.

UG School of Medicine regains accreditation

UG School of Medicine regains accreditation

The School of Medicine at The University of Guyana (UG) was recently “accorded Accreditation for four years from 2017-2021 by the Caribbean Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP). The decision to grant re-accreditation with a few conditions to the UG School of Medicine was made at the July 2017 meeting of CAAM-HP. The School first gained accreditation in 2008 and functioned as a professionally accredited institution up to 2015.
