UG to graduate first batch of Speech and Language Therapy students next month -graduates to play key role in helping to address speech challenges in school system

The University of Guyana [UG] is set to graduate its first batch of Speech and Language Therapists under its Medical Rehabilitation Programme next month.
This batch of therapists comprises of five females all of whom will be plugged into the public health sector to help advance its speech therapy agenda.

The University of Guyana’s Student Society was established in 1973. Since then, the society has held elections every year to select a new President for the management of its proceedings. Dauntingly, only two women had ever been elected to serve as president of this student body.
That is, until October 1, when Devta Ramroop became only the third woman president of the prestigious university’s student society.

The Ministry of Education and the University of Guyana today commissioned a Facilities Maintenance Division building at the University’s Turkeyen campus.

The facility will house some 100 permanent and part-time staff responsible for eight broad areas of maintenance: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, estates, grounds, transport, custodial and building. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry, emphasised the importance of proper maintenance of the nation’s premier tertiary institution.

Construction of the Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Centre for behavioral studies and research has begun at the University of Guyana.
Buddy’s Construction is set to renovate what is known as the “Spicy Dish” building on the university campus into a facility used for the psychology center facility. The project should be completed by December 31, 2018.
