More than one thousand seven hundred students graduated today at the University of Guyana’s 52ndConvocation in three back-to-back ceremonies hosted at the National Cultural Centre.

The University of Guyana Finance and General Purposes Committee, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, unanimously approved the request of Vice-Chancellor Professor Ivelaw Griffith for salary increases at the rate of 3% for all eligible UA staff and 4% for all eligible UB staff, retroactive to January 1, 2018. These increases will be paid to staff members of the University of Guyana by Thursday, December 20, 2018. Considering the increases granted for 2017, this makes the combined increase over two years 9% for UA staff and 12% for UB workers.

A three percent pay increase has been approved for academic staff [UA] of the University of Guyana [UG] while support staff [UB] will be eligible for a four percent increase. The pay increase will be retroactive to January 1, 2018.
This is according to information released by the university’s public relations department which yesterday revealed that the institution’s Finance and General Purpose Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved the request of Vice Chancellor, Professor Ivelaw Griffith, for the salary increases.

History was created when, on the recommendation of the University of Guyana Academic Board, the University Council at its 2018 Annual Business meeting on Thursday, November 8, unanimously adopted the proposal to confer the university’s first honorary doctorate degrees upon four outstanding Guyanese at the 52nd Convocation of the Turkeyen campus to be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the National Cultural Center.

At its convocation ceremony set for Saturday [November 10, 2018], the University of Guyana [UG] will graduate its first batch of students from its School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation [SEBI].
The School was launched in 2017 and, according to information released by the university, the prospective graduates, at the time, were Third Year students in the Faculty of Social Sciences pursing programmes that were transferred to SEBI.
This weekend, the university will graduate its first batch of students from 12 different programmes.
