UG celebrates the life and music of the late Valerie Rodway

The University of Guyana on Wednesday evening hosted a symposium to honour the life and music of the late composer Valerie Rodway, days after the Ministry of Presidency renamed the National Trust of Guyana building, the Valerie Rodway House in her honour.

The observance came one day the Guyanese composer was commemorated by President David Granger, First Lady Sandra Granger and several government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.

A female University of Guyana student was Friday arrested in connection with two days of bomb threats at the University of Guyana, forcing that tertiary institution to close its doors until next week, authorities said.

She has been identified as Dianne Jafferali, said to be a close relative of a staunch People’s Progressive Party (PPP) member.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2019 the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus was evacuated due to an anonymous call that was received at the Alberttown Police Station, Georgetown at 12:40 that a bomb was planted on the campus. The campus was evacuated as a precaution and a search of the premises was conducted by Officers of the Police Force and Fire Service.

All classes for the rest of the day were cancelled and staff were sent home.
