Gibson’s al-round performance spurs UG past GNIC

A brilliant all-round performance by Andre Gibson sealed an intense four-wicket win for the University of Guyana (UG) over GNIC in the final round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40-over tournament at GNIC on Saturday. 

 Gibson, a former Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) player, snared 4-50 and recorded an unbeaten half-century to see his new club over the line.

As one integrally involved in the first-ever student-organised sporting event to be held at the Turkeyen Campus of the University of Guyana, first-year International Relations student Jafar Gibbons has hailed the tournament as a massive success. Having played 19 games on the day, with all having been played smoothly, with no interruptions occurring at any point, Gibbons says he has been really impressed with the style of play and the fluidity with which the teams played.

As the local economy continues to expand, demanding a larger workforce, Trinidadian Lecturer Dr. Roger Hosein is urging that monies be spent on increasing labour force participation.

Hosein Thursday delivered a lecture titled “Critical considerations for the economic success of Guyana in the context of its pending petroleum boom” at the Herdmaston Lodge in Georgetown. The lecture was organized by the University of Guyana.

When Mark Jacobs, a University of Guyana (UG) student started experimenting with chemical research, and delving into agro- processing, he never imagined that his work would lead to the establishment of a company poised to make its mark on the local and international markets.
According to information posted on the Ministry of Finance, Jacobs Agro, located at Hauraruni, Linden Soesdyke Highway, has received recognition from Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, who toured the farm, last week.

DEAR EDITOR,

I write this letter as a Student of the University of Guyana.
Many times we as a people focus on the negatives and we never acknowledge the positives of a person or institution. Recently some staff members of the University of Guyana staged a protest for an increase in wages. While I will not comment on this, as I advocate for fair compensation for work, I’d like to speak to the negativity that has been linked to the activities spearheaded by the Vice Chancellor, and the claim that he has wasted money doing his “talks and cocktails”.

Former national youth batsman Omesh Danram yesterday swatted an unbeaten half-century to power the University of Guyana (UG) to a comfortable seven-wicket win over the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in the penultimate round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division forty overs tournament.
