In the arena of creating music for popular consumption, it is sometimes the case that a song about which one is very excited, and generating high expectations, will land like a thud – seemingly totally dismissed by the population. An example is my song “Hit The Road,” which I wrote for a Tradewinds studio session in Toronto, extolling that band-on-the-road aspect of Trinidad carnival. I felt it would do well in Port-of-Spain, but it was simply ignored. In contrast, I did a column here recently, titled Knowing Our Stalwarts, and the response, frankly, surprised me.
New research to address mental health challenges in Guyana

An OU academic is leading an ambitious new research project to address mental health challenges in Guyana.
This will result in a new honours degree in Mental Health Nursing in Guyana, which has gained support from the Guyanese government, the higher education sector, and civic society.

THE Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Centre of Behavioural Sciences and Research at the University of Guyana is set for opening this month.
Construction of the centre was completed a few weeks ago by Buddy’s Construction, a local general construction company which was responsible for the completion of many large-scale construction projects in Guyana.
The next step will be the furnishing of the building and the official opening of the centre for use by students, faculty and UG management.

The University of Guyana (UG) hosted its annual career fair and open day, at its Tain Berbice Campus on April 5.
The event was attended by hundreds of students from various Primary and Secondary schools across regions 5 and 6. In attendance too were representatives from both government and private agencies.
