With the aim of fostering student interaction at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus, one student has planned a football tournament with a twist.

Set for February 2, the small goal competition embraces the concept of teams comprising a mixture of players from different faculties.

According to organiser, Jafar Gibbons, the feedback has been encouraging and he is looking forward to an exciting event.

THE University of Guyana (UG) has affirmed that it is taking measures to ensure students of Guyana can become prepared for the emerging Oil and Gas industry.

Tenth Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The University of Guyana, Professor Dr. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith highlighted recently that the university has announced courses specific to the industry, since July 2018.

The flyer posted earlier this year, in July, announcing some of UG’s measures to prepare students for the Oil and Gas industry.

A son of the soil, Dr. Keith Cummings, has been recognized for an outstanding award in New York, United States of America.
Dr. Cummings, a graduate of the University of Guyana [UG], was recognized for excellence in Health Care in the Brooklyn Hospital Center, and for outstanding and invaluable service to the East New York Community. He was, moreover, recently the recipient of a certificate of special congressional recognition from Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.

There is no denying that students with disabilities attending the University of Guyana [UG] are faced with various challenges as they seek to pursue higher education. But there is hope on the horizon for these students.
This development manifested Monday when the Guyana Council of Organisation for Persons with Disabilities [GCOPD] was granted substantial financial support intended to help address these existing challenges.

The University of Guyana’s Faculty of Natural Science was given a boost with the donation of over $8.3Million (US$40,000) in equipment by ExxonMobil, Yuesday morning.

Among the highly specialised equipment presented were; a Baader Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector, a Bsc Optics Diode Laser; Wireless Temperature Sensor; Demo Mirror Concave; 1 Meade Series 5000 HD-60 Eyepiece Kit; 1 Orion XX 16G GO-TO Truss Dobson Ian Telescope; ZWO ASI 071 Pro Cooled Color CMOS Telescope among others.

University of Guyana [UG] Trojans and Pacesetters secured wins in the U23 Division, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA] ‘League Championship’, continued on Sunday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael streets.

The Turkeyen-based institution schooled Plaisance Guardians 79-62. Jonathan Browne top scored with 18 points. He was closely followed by Kadeem Peterkin on 17 points.

 

 The trio of Jabari Joseph, Cubator Stephen and Denzil Ross chipped in with eight, eight and seven points respectively.

A number of primary school students in Regions Five and Six will now have a place in their schools to read thanks to a drive held by students of the University of Guyana, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said.

The Division of Education and Humanities in collaboration with the University of Guyana Berbice Campus’ Library and the Department of Education on Saturday held its second Christmas Cheer and Book Drive drawing which will mean 24 classrooms are to be provided with a complete reading space equipped with fully stocked bookshelves.

Efforts to bolster research at the University of Guyana (UG) recently were boosted by Caribbean Airlines (CAL) which underwrote attendance by several UG computer scientists at the 2018 Caribbean Academic of Sciences conference, which was held in Jamaica. The four-member team comprised three female computer scientists, some of whom received their first-ever invitations to showcase their research at the prestigious academic gathering.
