Reaching
Out
The Faculty is concerned that students obtain a
rounded education, which should enable them to discourse on and
understand various areas of life outside the confines of the Natural
Sciences. Hence, they are encouraged to participate in many
extracurricular activities, provided that these do not affect their
academic performance.
Activities include:
- Astronomy Club
- Botany Club
- Debating Societies
- Inter-Faith Varsity Group
- Drama Clubs
- Students’ Society (UGSS)
- The University Choir
- Student Seminars
Members of staff of the Faculty also participate in many of these
activities, and so the students have an opportunity to meet them
outside of the formality of classes.
Faculty Members As soon as you register with
the Faculty of Natural Sciences, you are a student member of the
Faculty. This status confers certain rights and corresponding
duties. For example, you are given the right to the use of the
Faculty facilities following the normal procedures, and
correspondingly you have the duty to take care of these facilities
and ensure that they are taken care of by others.
Furthermore, the Faculty makes every effort to ensure:
- that you get the best in teaching and other facilities so that
you can perform at your optimum;
- that before you leave you are assisted in job placement which
will enable you to make your contribution to the wider society.
- that after graduation, contact is maintained with you, so that
new members can benefit from your experience.
New Look The Faculty is determined that you
acquire the necessary skills and exposure to adequately meet the
challenges of the 21st century. To this end it is training new staff
to cope with your perceived demands in the following areas:
- Computer Science
- Medical Physics
- Biotechnology
- Environmental Studies
Already the Faculty has a limited number of microcomputers which
are available for use especially in the areas of Spread-sheet, Word
Processing and Language Learning (computing). However, the Faculty
is expecting to increase its stock with new and exciting equipment
which will help you to measure such common concerns as Planck’s
constant, parameters of pollution and factors affecting forestry.
If you enrol in this Faculty, we can assure you of an interesting
and worthwhile career in the Natural Sciences.
Departments The Faculty comprises the
