| December 13, 2005 | First Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management Workshop at the Grand Coastal Inn, Felicity, East Coast Demerara. Dr. Misir gave opening remarks at this event and addressed issues related to disaster-national development linkage, the need to inculcate a disaster-preparedness mindset, and that global warming has created havoc with weather patterns. |
December 7, 2005 | Dr. Prem Misir conducted a national stakeholders' workshop at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel dealing with HIV/AIDS at the Workplace. In August 2005, the UNDP contracted the Pro-Chancellor to formulate a draft National Tripartite Policy (Government, Unions, and Employees) on HIV/AIDS at the Workplace. Dr. Misir conducted consultations through 10 workshops. He was an Associate Public Health Epidemiologist at the New York City Department of Health, Bureau of HIV Prevention Intervention. |
December 3, 2005 | The 4th Convocation of the University of Guyana Berbice Campus was postponed from November 26, 2005 to December 3, 2005. Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana gave the feature address at this event, and presented the graduands with their certificates. |

September 3, 2005 | The Guyana Folk Festival 2005 Symposium at Borough of Manhattan Community College/CUNY, New York. The Pro-Chancellor was the speaker on the paper "Possibilities for Collaboration with Scholars within Global Guyana: An Exploration." In addition, he was the presenter of the paper "Exploring the Intersection of the Guyanese Word and Dance in the Post-Independence Era" and the discussant of the paper "Dance Hall and Other Venues" |

May 28-29, 2005 | The International Seminar on International Diaspora Issues, held in Trinidad & Tobago. Dr. Misir presented a paper titled �Toward National Unity in Multicultural Societies�. The paper discusses the view that genuine national unity must reflect cultural inputs of all ethnic groups, without ethnic dominance. In addition, he Chaired the Working session 111, which presented Indian Diaspora issues, such as women, cultural integration, caste and class, and disease. April 9, 2005 | Dr. Prem Misir, Pro-chancellor and Education adviser was the recipient of Sanskaar Bhaarati International Guyana award at the first cultural program held to observe Vikram Sammat (Hindu New Year) 2062. He received the award for his contribution to the international promotion of Indian cultural and academic activities in both Guyana and New York. |
