Candidates possessing ANY ONE of the following requirements may be admitted to the Diploma Programme:
- At least five (5) subjects at the CXC/CSEC General Proficiency examination, Grades I, II (or III from 1998) and/or at the GCE "O" Level Examination (Grades A, B or C) or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Four subjects at the CXC/CSEC General Proficiency examination (Grades I, II or III) and/or GCE "O" Level examination (Grades I, II or III) or equivalent, together with the Ordinary Diploma in Science (Credit Grade) from the Government Technical Institute.
- Diploma/ Certificate in Agriculture or Forestry from the Guyana School of Agriculture with at least a pass with credit.
- Bachelor's Degree in:

- Undergraduate Certificate (Music, French, Spanish)
- Two-Year Certificate in Music (Pan): For this programme, applicants must obtain the normal University CXC/CSEC or GCE entry requirements OR Trained Teachers' Certificate preferably with specialisation in History, Art, Music, English or Mathematics.
- Two-Year Certificate of Competence: (French, Spanish) The programme is designed for professionals who may need some competence in reading, understanding and speaking in one of the foreign languages stated above. It focuses on specialized/technical context along with the grammar of the language.
- Undergraduate Diplomas (Music, Tourism)
- Music: For the Diploma in Music, applicants must successfully complete the two-year Certificate in Music. The Diploma Programme is of one-year duration
- Diploma in Tourism Studies: For this programme, candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) subjects at CXC General Proficiency (Grade I, II or III)/GCE ‘O’ Level (Grades A, B or C) including English Language or hold a Trained Teachers' Certificate
- Certificate in Education
Specialisation is offered in:
- English Literature and Linguistics, Geography and Economics, History and Literature, Linguistics, Fine Arts, Tourism Studies, French and Spanish. Minors in other subjects done within the Faculty are allowed, for example, French, Fine Arts, Music, Creative Writing, Drama, in addition to the other Arts subjects named above. Minors in other Faculties are also permitted. For some Minors in the Faculty of Social Sciences a pass in Mathematics is required.
Applicants must note that:
The Department of Language and Cultural Studies and the Department of Social Studies offers Double Majors. Students who wish to pursue Double Majors must have obtained the entry requirement for at least one of the subjects in the desired Double Majors and must also obtain the permission of the relevant Faculty/Department for the subject.

For the Bachelor of Arts Degree
Applicants must possess the normal University entry requirements:
Specilisation is offered in: English Literature and Linguistics, History, Fine Arts, Tourism Studies, French and Spanish. Minors in other subjects done within the School as well as other Faculties are also permitted
- Applicants with at least two (2) appropriate GCE. "A" level passes would qualify for certain exemptions, thus allowing them to complete the degree within a shorter period.
- Applicants must obtain a pass in English Language and the subject in which they wish to specialise.
- Preference will be given to applicants to the Divison of English who possess a pass in English (B) in addition to English (A) in the CXC/CSEC.
- The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts may be done either over a four-year or a two-year period.
- For the four-year Degree, the normal University entry requirements would apply but must include Art. If Art is not included, applicants must:
- Successfully present a portfolio of recent work and
- Successfully complete a Drawing Exam set by the Division of Creative Arts. OR
- Possess a Trained Teachers' Certificate plus (a) and (b) above.
- Bachelor & Certificate Programmes in Education (CERT. ED.)
Applicants must possess the normal University entry requirements: Specilisation is offered in: English Literature and Linguistics, History, Fine Arts, Tourism Studies, French and Spanish. Minors in other subjects done within the School as well as other Faculties are also permitted
- Acceptable grades in the relevant option(s)/area(s) at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE examinations. AND
- A Trained Teacher’s Certificate with specialisation in the relevant subject area.
- Other equivalent qualifications
- Specilisation is offered in Nursery Education, Primary Education, Administrative and Teaching, Agriculture, Business Education, English, Geography, History, Home Economics, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Science, Social Studies, Teaching and Reading and Technical Education.
- The option in Administration and Teaching is intended for applicants who hold administrative positions in Nursery, Primary, or Secondary Schools, or other Educational Training Institutions
- Such applicants would normally be Head-Teachers, Deputy Head-Teachers, Senior Masters/Mistresses, Heads of Department, Training Officers, Education Officers, and Education Supervisors.
Note:
- All applicants must be actively involved in the practice of Education at the commencement of the Programme.
- Classes are normally held in the afternoon from Monday to Friday, and all day on Saturday.
- Persons operating at the Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary levels, and who are actively engaged in the practice of Education may apply.
For the Bachelor of Education (B.E.D)
Admission Requirements Certificate in Education with a GPA of 2.0

Specialisation is offered in:
Administration and Teaching, English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Science and Social Studies.
For the Postgraduate Diploma applicants should obtain at least a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualifications with specialisation in the appropriate area.
NOTE: This programme is of two (2) years' duration. Classes are held all day on SATURDAYS.
- Master of Arts (History)
Master of Arts (History) applicants should obtain either:
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree from the University of Guyana with at least a "B" average or equivalent AND must complete University of Guyana courses HST323, 411 & 421 (Guyanese History (courses) and HST 221 (West Indies History) or equivalent. In special circumstances these courses may be taken concurrently with HST611, HST612, HST621 and HST622 during year 1 of the programme.
OR
- Other qualifications and experience approved by the Board for Post-Graduate Studies.
N.B: Applicants who are not graduates of the University of Guyana must ensure that an official transcript of their undergraduate work is submitted to the Registrar, University of Guyana.

- Associate of Science Degree in:
- Pharmacy
Applicants to the Associate Degree in Pharmacy must obtain one of the following:
- A Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree – Biology/Chemistry minor or Chemistry major/Biology minor from the University of Guyana or any other approved institution of higher learning
- A Diploma or Associated Degree in Science from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Guyana or any other approved institution of higher learning.
- A minimum of two subjects at GCE ‘A’ level or CAPE Examination which must include Chemistry and Biology. GCE ‘A’ level grades A, B, and C (or equivalent) are accepted as pass.
- A minimum of (5) five subjects at the GCE ‘O’ level, grades A, B, or C or CXC/CSEC (General proficiency), grades I, II, or II four (4) of which must be Chemistry, Biology (or Human Biology), Mathematics and English. Integrated Science (DA) may replace Chemistry or Biology
- The Ordinary Diploma in Science (ODS) from the Government Technical Institute (Credit Grade) in addition to a minimum of four subjects at the CXC/CSEC (General Proficiency, Grades I, II, and III or GCE ‘O’ level Grades A, B, or C l which must include English, Mathematics, Biology (or Human Biology) and Chemistry. Integrated Science (DA) may replace Chemistry or Biology.
- Veterinary Assistant Diploma from REPAHA (Credit Grade) or a Diploma in Agriculture (Credit Grade) in addition to a minimum of two years continuous relevant work experience after qualifications.
- Persons who have successfully completed the Pharmacy Assistant Training Programme run by the Ministry of Health in addition to two (2) years continuous relevant work experience after qualifications, and are successful at the University’s Entrance Examination (UGEE).
- Mature applicants (26 years and over) are eligible, provided they have had a minimum of five (5) years continuous relevant work experience in a professional field: e.g. Pharmacy or Nursing and are successful at the University’s Entrance Examination (UGEE).
- Any other qualification considered equivalent by the Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Environmental Health
For the Associate of Sciences Degree in Environmental Health:
- Passes in five (5) at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency examination, Grades I, II, III or GCE “O” level Grades A,B or C (Or equivalent) at one (1) sitting or six (6) subjects at two (2) sittings. Subjects must include English Language, Biology or Human Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
OR
- Passes in four (4) subjects at the CXC/CSEC General Proficiency Examination, Grades I, II, or III /GCE "O" Level, Grades A, B, or C subject which must include English Language, Mathematics, and Biology together with the two-year Ordinary Diploma in Science , Pass with Credit, from the GTI/NATI.
- Environmental Health Assistant Certificate, and two years’ post-qualification experience.
- Mature students (26 years and over) who do not satisfy the above requirements are eligible for admission, provided they have had a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a related professional field and are successful at the University’s Entrance Examination. (UGEE)

- Occupational Health & Safety
Applicants to the Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety must obtain one of the following:
- The Institute of Distance and Continuing Education Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- An Environmental Health Officer's Certificate.
- A College or University qualification in a Science, Management, Nursing or Technical subject.
- Other qualification which the Institute deems to be equivalent and appropriate.

- Bachelor's Degree in:
- Environmental Sciences
- At least five (5) subjects at ONE SITTING with grades I or II prior to 1998 or III from 1998 at the CXC/CSEC and GCE ‘O’ Level grades A – C. Subjects should include Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language.
- A Diploma in Agriculture from the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) with at least a Pass with Credit
- An Ordinary Diploma in Science (ODS) – Chemistry with at least a Pass with Credit.
- A Trained Teacher Certificate together with CXC/GCE passes in Biology and Chemistry or Integrated Science at the appropriate grades.
- A Diploma in Forestry.
- Mature applicants (26 years and over) who do not possess these qualifications may be considered for admission provided they have a good general education, creditable work experience in the field and must have passed the University of Guyana Entrance Examination (UGEE).
Note:
Agriculture Science (Double Award) and Integrated Science will also be considered for admission to the programme.
Candidates who do not possess a pass in English Language but who possess the required number of subjects at ONE SITTING, may be asked to take a qualifying examination in English
- BA in Geography; Geography/Economics etc.
- At least five (5) subjects with grades I or II prior to 1998 and III from 1998 at the CXC/CSEC and GCE ‘O’ Level grades A –C, subjects should include Geography, Mathematics and English Language.
- A Trained Teacher Certificate (Social Studies) together with CXC/GCE passes (grades I or II) in Geography and English Language.
Note:
- Candidates who are eligible for admission to the University but who do not possess a pass in Geography and who have related qualification and experience may be admitted to read for the BA in Geography. Such candidates will not, however, be eligible to undertake a double major programme.
- Geography courses may be offered as part of a minor or as an elective by student reading for degrees in other programmes offered by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and in other Faculties.
- Candidates with the requisite GCE ‘A’ Level or CAPE (grades I – II) qualification may be granted exemption from some year-one courses in the Degree Programme to enable them to complete the programme in three years.
- Candidates in the Geography/Economics double major programme with passes at GCE ‘A’ Level or CAPE (grade I – V) may be permitted to register for additional courses to permit them to complete the programme in three (3) academic years.
- Mature applicants (26 years and over) who do not possess these qualifications may be considered for admission provided they have a good general education, creditable work experience in the field and must have passed the University of Guyana Entrance Examination (UGEE).

- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture
- The basic University requirements which must include passes in any two of the following subjects: Additional Mathematics, Agriculture Science (Double Award), Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science (Double Award), Physics.
OR
- The Diploma in Agriculture from the Guyana School of Agriculture.
OR
- The Diploma in Forestry from the University of Guyana (GPA 2.0) or its equivalent.
OR
- The Diploma in Animal Health from REPAHA.
Areas of Specialisation
Applicants may opt to read for:
- General B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture
- B.Sc. Degree in Animal Science
- B.Sc. Degree in Crop Science
- B.Sc. Degree in Soil Science
- Associate Degree in General Science
Options in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
For each optional area of study, applicants must possess at least five subjects at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE ‘O’ Level at NO MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS which must include English Language and Mathematics. In addition, persons applying to pursue Biology, Chemistry or Physics must also possess the major subject area among the five (5) CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/ GCE ‘O’ Level AND one (1) other science subject.
- Diploma in Computer Science
For the Diploma in Computer Science, applicants must possess at least five (5) subjects at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE ‘O’ Level at not more than two sittings which must include English Language and Mathematics.
- Certificate in Education
- Trained Teachers' Certificate with specialisation in the relevant subject area/ programme (eg. Nursery, Primary, Secondary).
OR
- Qualification which the Faculty may consider equivalent to CXC/CSEC/GCE/Trained Teachers’ Certificate.
NOTE:

View Admission Requirements
- For the Diplomas in Accountancy and Marketing applicants must possess a minimum of five subjects at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE ‘O’ Level at one (1) sitting. Subjects must include English Language and Mathematics.
- Two subjects at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE `O’ Level together with a Trained Teachers’ Certificate or Ordinary Diploma in Commerce (GTI)/ or One Year Certificate in Accountancy from GTI are also accepted for entry to the Diploma in Accountancy.
- For the Diplomas in Public Management and Social Work, applicants must possess a minimum of five subjects at CXC/CSEC General Proficiency/GCE `O’ Level at not more than TWO SITTINGS. Subjects must include English Language.
- Applicants who possess the Trained Teachers’ Certificate will also be considered for admission to the Diploma in Social Work.
- Applicants who possess the One Year Industrial Relations and Management (IDCE) will also be considered for admission to the Diploma in Public Management.
