The Learning Resource Centre

The LRC is the audiovisual arm of the University of Guyana Library. All registered users of the Library are eligible to use the resources of the LRC. The LRC houses study and research materials in non-book formats. It is located immediately south of the main library building. The LRC is intended to provide the following services.

AIMS OF THE LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

  • To provide facilities for group and individual use of audiovisual equipment and materials.
  • To provide support for audiovisual teaching methods in all faculties and departments.
  • To provide facilities and materials for self-directed learning.

SERVICES

LOAN OF EQUIPMENT, both on and off campus. Loan forms are available at the Learning Resource Centre. Requests for off-campus loans should be made at least two days in advance; requests for other loans must be made at least one day in advance. Computer work stations are also available for use by staff. However, there is an advance booking systems for use of these facilities. Equipment can be booked and taken to the venue where they are to be used, especially for periods outside of the opening hours of the LRC.

INTERNET FACILITY, also housed in the LRC is free to all staff members. This service can be accessed during the opening hours of the centre.

LOAN OF AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS
The Learning Resource Centre houses materials in non-book formats:

  1. videocassettes
  2. audiocassettes
  3. slides
  4. microfiche
  5. microfilm

These materials are for use only in the learning Resource Centre. Users check the printed lists of materials and staff assists in finding the material requested and setting up of use.

GROUP ACITIVITES
The LRC houses two (2) auditoriums – one in the upper flat and one in the lower flat – both of which can accommodate approximately one hundred (100) persons.

This area may be used for viewing purpose, student presentations, lectures, seminars and meetings. Requests to use the Auditorium must be made in advance as users are accommodated on a ‘first-come-first-serve’ basis.
